Engineering Manager - Metal Fabrication

Kruger Family Industries is a family-owned manufacturing conglomerate focused on Returnable Packaging, Steel Racking, OEM Components and Automotive Accessories. The company currently has four manufacturing facilities across North America. We are the largest heavy-gauge industrial thermoformer in North America.

KFI recently opened a metal racking facility in Arlington, TX and in need of an Engineering Manager for their metal fabrication division. Be part of an industrial startup that has the support of an established, prospering company and help us continue to grow!

SUMMARY               

The Engineering Manager - Metal Fabrication plans, directs, and coordinates activities of

designated metal fabrication projects to ensure that goals or objectives are accomplished

within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters. This role involves overseeing

both the design and production phases, managing a team of engineers and design

drafters, as well as liaising with internal and external stakeholders.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work closely with clients to determine project requirements, communicate progress, and proactively resolve conflicts or issues.
  • Establish work plans and staffing requirements for each phase of metal fabrication projects, and recruit or assign engineering personnel as needed.
  • Direct and coordinate design engineers, design drafters, tool engineers, and production teams to ensure projects progress on schedule and within the allocated budget.
  • Coordinate the procurement of materials, equipment, and tooling necessary for fabrication projects.
  • Monitor the progress of all metal fabrication projects, from design to production.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to direct reports to enhance their skills and professional development.
  • Regularly review the status of projects and modify schedules or plans as required. Prepare project status reports for management, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Attend project meetings at the company's facilities and client locations. Represent the engineering department in interdepartmental meetings.
  • Collaborate with engineering personnel to provide technical advice and resolve any technical issues or challenges.
  • Implement and optimize business processes within the metal fabrication division to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Perform other job-related duties and assignments as required to meet business needs.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with regulatory requirements as well as company policies and procedures

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Manages one to ten employees in the Metal Fabrication Engineering Division.  Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this team.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university in engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience
  • A minimum of four to six years of demonstrated experience in metal fabrication, including expertise in managing complex bills of materials (BOMs) and item records.
  • Proficiency with CAD software relevant to metal fabrication (e.g., SolidWorks) and familiarity with project management tools such as MS Project.
  • Previous experience with MRP including Bill of Materials, Item Masters and Routings. NetSuite experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of metal fabrication techniques, including weldments, laser cutting, and press brake operations.
  • Experience in implementing and optimizing business processes is required.
  • Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt certification is highly desired.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Fluency in English is required. The ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents and the ability to effectively present information to all levels of employees including top management in a variety of settings is required. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described in this section are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The majority of time will be spent in the office area; however, the employee will spend time in the production areas. 

 

The production area temperatures can fluctuate significantly based on the time of year.  The noise levels can be moderate to high.  The use of hearing protection and safety eyewear is required while on production floor.  The use of additional specific safety equipment may be required.  The noise level in the office is usually quiet. The noise level in production is usually moderate.

 

WORK AVAILABLITY AND TRAVEL

Must have the ability to work all shift schedules, periodic overtime and be available for periodic weekend work.  Travel requirements: 20%
