The Design Engineer translates customer requirements into functional product designs.

They plan, design, and develop products or components in projects assigned from concept through production.
 

Essential Duties include the following..

  • Responsible for overall product design specifications / criteria that ensure the product will meet all critical customer requirements
  • Create sketch or concept drawings of proposed products or equipment, checking dimensions of parts, specifies materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project
  • Creates accurate cost estimates for customer request for quote
  • Document design input / goals. Ensure that finished design requirements will meet these goals. Final production inspection, validation, and documentation that product meets customer requirements
  • Create SolidWorks CAD designs per KFI Engineering Standards and maintain within EPDM vault
  • Coordinate project review meetings as necessary with Sales, Customers, Sales Reps, Jig & Fixture, Vendors, and other members of the cross functional teams related to design and manufacturing feasibility
  • Communicate with sales personnel, supervisors, and customers to ensure that all customer requirements are met
  • Schedule and lead cross functional design reviews prior to design release.
  • Provide timely feedback on project status to supervisor to ensure on time task completion of assignments
  • Update and maintain all files related to assigned projects according to company policies and ISO procedures
  • Update existing product designs as required via the Engineering Change and Revision Process
  • Develops and analyzes technical data as assigned or required
  • Completes departmental reporting / metrics as required
  • Responsible for handling and maintaining information relating to new product developmental activities in a confidential and proprietary manner
  • Contributes to the Departments outstanding Safety Record by making safety a part of all activities

 

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Design; 1-2 years' experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of polymers, preferably thermoforming and/or injection molding
  • Prefer experience in material handling
