JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Payroll Clerk II is responsible for the daily posting of time worked, absences and vacations for Operators and Maintenance staff for operating stations and garages. On a daily basis, this position reviews information within the HASTUS, Oracle and Dayforce systems to ensure accuracy. Exporting file from Oracle to Day Force for final verifications and updates ending with the payroll commit.

 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Review daily operator payroll hours in HASTUS, Oracle and Dayforce. Find errors and make necessary corrections including contacting station clerks and managers to clear the errors.
  2. Verify and record all absences of Operators.  Keep accurate records of sickness or injury time, layoffs, funeral time, vacation changes, holidays, witness time and any time Operators are away from regular scheduled work.
  3. Daily verification of garage time sheets in Dayforce and contact Garage Supervisors if corrections are needed.
  4. Verify and process all assigned FMLA requests, garnishments, and lite duty.
  5. Provide Accounting with Operator deviations by route and total.
  6. In conjunction with Payroll Supervisor, interpret and monitor collective bargaining payroll provisions as they apply to represented and non-represented payroll.
  7. Serve as backup to Payroll Clerk IV in reviewing the biweekly timesheets and other duties as needed to ensure a timely commit of scheduled pay runs.
  8. Attend new hire class and station visits.
  9. Process service increases every week. Send to HR and Business Analyst for updates.
  10. Respond to emails and department’s phone queue including pay and timesheet questions, entitlement balances and resetting Dayforce passwords for employees.
  11. Perform year end payroll duties which include overtime and observing blackout periods around the holidays.
  12. Maintain payroll records on and off site.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

  1. Minimum one-year of experience in a payroll processing capacity that includes utilizing payroll software to review time-entry data, performing payroll balances to ensure accuracy of pay and entering various deductions; OR a two-year Associate’s Degree in Accounting.  In lieu of an Associate’s Degree, MCTS will accept applicants currently enrolled in an Associate Degree program in Accounting with one half of the required course work complete.
  2. Must pass preemployment test(s). If educational requirement is met, testing will not be required.
  3. Excellent attendance and work record.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  1. Knowledge of /computers with excellent data entry skills; Testing to be given.
  2. Knowledge of or ability to learn Oracle, Microsoft Excel and Day Force systems.
  3. Ability to apply analytical, organizational and practical judgement skills in a work environment involving strict attention to detail, accuracy and deadlines.
  4. Ability to learn and accurately apply labor contracts.
  5. Ability to work independently and to think critically.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively and work well with others at all levels.
  7. Ability to write neatly and legibly.
  8. Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance as determined by MTS.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

  1. Must have good finger and manual dexterity.
  2. Must be able to manipulate objects with the hands.
  3. Must have the ability to provide both oral and written communications requiring good verbal expression, satisfactory hearing and eyesight clarity sufficient to read.
  4. Must be able to lift and move storage boxes and pass crates.

 

NOTE: Overtime is required during holidays and no vacations will be granted from Mid-November through the end of January, at the discretion of the Supervisor of Payroll.
