Sylvamo’s Ticonderoga, NY Mill is located on the shores of Lake Champlain.  In operation since 1971, the mill produces high end printing and technical papers harvested from Adirondack and Vermont forests.  We employ over 600 dedicated employees focused on safety, environment, quality and production.
 

The Safety Engineer portion of the job is responsible for supporting day-to-day and long-term safety and health activities for all mill operations and helping support mill alignment with corporate initiatives and priorities.  The Emergency Response portion of the job is directly responsible for all aspects of emergency response coordination and facilitation for the mill, including but not limited to hazardous material response, confined space rescue, fire protection system maintenance, mill security, and emergency preparation.
 

The position interfaces directly with department leaders and Safety Facilitators to ensure everyone understands the mill and regulatory compliance mandates.
 

The position is responsible for understanding the Mill operations, developing relationships with all groups of team members, auditing behaviors, and driving the safety culture toward improvements in safety performance.  The selected candidate must be able to identify safety and emergency response opportunities and drive sustainable change.  They will work closely with the EHS and Safety Managers, corporate counterparts, and peer groups across the Mill system to accomplish goals.  The Safety Engineer will participate in activities outside the Mill, including but not limited to OSHA events and networking with other manufacturing facilities.
 

The selected candidate will manage the Security Department and the Mill Fire Chief.
 

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must possess a clear ability to lead others to accomplish a common goal.  To be considered, the candidate must have the ability to manage and coordinate multiple and complex assignments.  They must understand team dynamics; and have the ability to work in a diverse workforce.  The candidate must be able to lead meetings, conduct training, have strong listening skills, effectively manage change, and handle conflict in the workplace.  Qualified candidates must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to influence others. Also, the candidate must be capable of Passing Emergency Response Team Physical.
 

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in emergency response, occupational health and safety, or a related field and a minimum of 3+ years’ experience managing emergency response teams and industrial health & safety programs in a heavy manufacturing environment, an appropriate professional certification, or equivalent experience.  Must be willing to travel occasionally.
